Jines 658 Park Avenue Rochester, NY 585.461.1280 http://www.jinesrestaurant.com The best thing about living downtown is the easy accessibility to restaurants galore. This past Sunday we started out walking and ended up at Jines. Why? Because we were finally around when there wasn’t a wait. Jines has been a popular Park Avenue establishment for quite some time. It was a glorious fall day so we decided to sit at the tables they have set up on the sidewalk. Jines has quite an extensive menu for breakfast and it took us awhile to get through it all. In addition to all of the regular menu offerings, they also had a specials menu. Jines also serves breakfast all day! How great is that? After ordering some hot, strong coffee ($1.25), we placed our orders. A note about the service: it was just about perfect. We had a friendly, accurate server who was amazingly adept at dealing with another high-maintenance customer at another table. I ordered off the specials menu. The Wild Mushroom Omelete ($6.50) called my name. The assorted mushrooms were sautéed in sherry and folded into the egg along with goat cheese. It was incredible. I also ordered a side of hash browns ($1.50). I wasn’t as enthusiastic about the hash browns, but they were edible. A little under and over cooked (depending on the potato) with a lack of seasoning, there were nevertheless served hot. My dining partner ordered the Belgium Waffle with Strawberries and Chocolate Ice Cream ($5.45). The server stated his dish was the envy of the kitchen. It did look appetizing and tasted the same. Jines is a restaurant that is comfortable with good food. I am sure we’ll be back to try out lunch and dinner soon. If you come, try to go at an off time or be prepared for a bit of a wait!
