Review content:
Steak and Ale is promoted as a family restaurant, reasonable prices and good food. All of those things are true. However, the experience we had ensures we will not return there.
We arrived Sunday August 27th, at noon - just after church. Because we are smokers, we actually did not have to wait for a table. We were placed in a small, dark room where the smokers are banished. Our server was very pleasant, brought our drinks and took our order.
Then we waited. And waited. We saw people who were seated after us receive their food. Finally we flagged our server - who told us the chef was really slow.
I asked her what that meant. She finally said she had asked him to hurry our order. So of course he didn't. Apparently they are looking to replace him, but until they do - he's it.
About 10 minutes later another server came over and told us he didn't prepare our steaks medium well and he sent them back to be prepared correctly.
Another 10 minutes and our food arrived. My steak was medium well. My husband's was well done and burnt on the outside.
At this point, we asked for some sort of recompense. Our server totally agreed with us and brought a bill showing the charge for only one meal. Great!
But when she brought the final bill - it had both meals on it! I complained and it was corrected. I did tip her $10 because she was very good and we were not upset with her.
When I checked my bank account the next day - I had been charged for one meal. And there was a hold on my card for two meals! That too has finally, been corrected.
The establishment has plenty of parking. The food (mine anyway) was quiet good. I had steak with garlic butter, mashed potato and salad bar. The salad bar had spinach to use as salad and that is what I did. It was delicious. Their selection of beers was okay as well. The main featured food is steak. They also have seafood available. There are some sandwiches too. Pretty straightforward American food.
On a scale of 1 to 5 (5 being great) I'd rate the food a 4, the overall service a 1.
