Are you're in the market for a new doctor for your child? This one is perfect if you like rude staff and are able to reserve an entire day for an appointment.
When my son was born, Dr Gant was the pediatrician at the hospital who checked out my son. He was so fantastic and very nice and the hospital staff had very nice things to say about him. So, with that in mind i decided to make him my son's primary care doctor. What i should have asked about was the rest of the staff. On our first visit i was turned off by the ladies at the front desk who were very rude and snappy. but since my son was an infant, we were able to go to the back waiting room were i didn't have to look at them. Once he was older though, we had to wait in the front area like everyone else. This meant listening to them yell at the parents and watch them glare at myself and everyone else. The normal waiting time for your child's appointment is anywhere from 1 to 3 hours. After you are called back, you sit in the examining room for another 30 minutes to an hour. If you make afternoon appointments during the school year clear about 5 hours of your day for your child's appointment.
I chose to put up with this though b/c i loved the doctors and so did my son. and its not like you go that often. But then a few months ago around Feb or March of this year (2006), i made an appointment for my son who was sick. I was given at time for that same day in the morning. I showed up 5 minutes prior to our appointment, signed in, and then sat there for 1 1/2 hours with my sick child until no one was left in the waiting room. One of the ladies asked me what i wanted in a rude tone and i said we were here for an 11:30 appointment and its now 1 pm. she yelled at me b/c i hadn't been seen yet and then yelled at me some more b/c i only signed in and didn't tell anyone verbally that we were there. Although there was a woman right at the sign in sheet when i signed in, so if i was supposed to say something, she should have said so. The rude woman went and talked to the elder pediatrician who we have only seen once and didn't care much for and he told the lady to tell us to come back later because he was going to lunch. and if we didn't like it, then go somewhere else. So i took his advise and found a new doctor for my son where the wait time is less than 10 minutes. I do miss the two nice pediatricians who work there, and all the women who work in the back to aid the doctors are great too. But as long as those women at the front desk and the elder pediatrician work there, i will never recommend anyone to take their children there. What kind of pediatrician turns away a sick child who has been waiting for 1 1/2 hours to be seen?? That's not the kind of doctor i want for my child.
