About 4 years ago my wife got me involved in triathlon. When you first get started in triathlon racing it can be a huge expenditure. (The right bike, the right wet suit, the right accessories, etc.) While looking for the "right" gear we stumbled onto Speedy Reedy Triathlon Shop on Northlake. At the time they were holding spinning classes during the winter months. During the spinning classes that winter and the years that followed we became friends with Reed and Brooke Silers (owners).
Some might say that a personal friend is not the best choice to write a review. I think that your friends know you best. So here it goes:
It has been my experience that that there is a bit of an elitist attitude that pervades triathlon and cycling in the Seattle area. It is very intimidating for people that are new to the sport. Many want to be able to ask questions without being made to feel stupid. Speedy Reedy is that kind of place.
The staff at Speedy Reedy are all triathletes of various levels of experience. Reed and Brooke encourage their employees to participate in the sport that their business is focused on not only for the camaraderie but also for the experiences they can share with their customers. There are no Hawaii qualifiers here, yet. But if that's your goal they know who to direct you to.
Yes, the bike shop isn't as big as Greg's. Yes, occasionally you might find things cheaper at Performance. But when you've been out biking in the famous cold Seattle rain and you need a place to warm up there's a warm bench inside to sit on, a very lovable shop dog (Rosie) to nuzzle up to, and some wonderful triathlon enthusiasts to share experiences with.
