My 95 year old father in law and his wife had been busy making apple jelly. She mentioned how hard it was becoming, due to having to use a large spoon to squeeze out the juice from the peelings after cooking. I remembered my Mother owning a "food mill" or what she called "a sieve." Yesterday I found an old one like my Mom's at an antique market for only $6.00. I bought it because I have not been able to find a new one anywhere. Several places told me they no longer make them. Today my daughter and I went to Manitou Springs and there is a kitchen shop there and they not only had the food mill, they had it made by 3 different companys. About a month ago I was also looking for a metal hamburger press. I would have thought Wal-mart would carry it but they didn't. A kitchen store in Castle Rock had one, but it was like the Tupperware one, not the metal one that comes in two pieces that I was also used to using and prefer over the plastic ones. The Manitou Kitchen Shop was so nice, the owner(s) were great, nice and friendly too. Great place to shop.
