From the street, you aren’t expecting the funky atmosphere that awaits you at the Oasis. The walls are a bright, pleasing orange and the mix of tables and chairs give it a comfortable, homey feel. It was a beautiful day, but the outdoor patio did not have any tables set up.
We were promptly greeted and inviting to sit anywhere. We chose a window seat to people watch on Monroe Avenue. I ordered a Riesling ($6) and my dining partner ordered a Chardonnay ($7). The Riesling was a nice crisp wine, and the Chardonnay lacked the heavy oak which was appreciated.
We started off with Hummus ($3). I found this to be spot on, slightly coarse and no odd seasonings that you might find elsewhere. The smaller portion was plenty for two people. The pita was delivered in a foil wrap, but it did allow the pita bread to have some warmth to them while on the table. I ordered a Garlic Chicken Wrap and my dining partner ordered the Pasta Basilico ($9). While the presentation was lacking with the chicken wrap, the taste made up for it. Stuffed with tomato, feta and scallions, it was extremely filling for $5.00. The Pasta Basilico was a very colorful and tasty display of pine nuts, basil, garlic and parmesan.
I was tempted by the offering of desserts, but rarely have enough room. On a return trip, I pledge to start the meal with the Orange Blossom Crème Brulee.
Overall we did enjoy our experience at this small bistro. Small enough that one of the guys in the back wanted to make sure we enjoyed our meal. While I think the overall presentation could use some work, the taste of the food is well worth a visit.
