When I got pregnant unexpectedly with my third child, I had to get a referral from my family doctor for an OB/GYN who was on my list of providers. I put my trust in her to choose who she thought was best and she ended up having to get me into Dr. Tu because her first choice (Dr. Cook) wasnt taking any more patients for my due month. My first visit with her was a nightmare. She had me into her personal office to go over my family medical history and when I told her about my mother's various battles with cancer, she basically called me a liar and told me she "highly doubted" that my mother had had so many different kinds. She also went on to tell me that she didnt believe me about a few other medical conditions that I have, and rolled her eyes at me a few times when I listed the doctors she could contact if she needed to have them tell her themselves. I was stuck with her because my insurance only listed 3 doctors in this town that I could see and the other two werent taking new patients. I felt like I had been on trial rather than going in to find out about my unborn baby and its health. Every visit after that was more like a drive thru visit than anything. I would try to chat with her and make light conversation and she would brush off whatever I said ( How is your day? Are you enjoying the sunshine? etc) and just poke at my tummy, ask me a few medical questions and then say "ok Ill see you next month." She was very impersonal and very cold. Up until the final month of my pregnancy, she rarely actually examined me, and when it came time for the actual birth, she had me pushing when I shouldnt have been, resulting in my daughter being rushed to the respiratory unit and me laying there for over an hour without having been able to hold my daughter. I got to see her for a mere 10 seconds when they wrapped her up and rushed her off. She came in a day later and said she was sorry and that she had made a mistake in having me push too soon, but was happy everything turned out ok. I would never have her in charge of my childs life, and I would never again have her as a doctor of any kind.
