Big Lots opened in Alpena 2-3 years ago. I was ecstatic! My Brother in law also found it and we have had a lively conversation as to the great finds from the Alpena Big Lots while my husband sat by shaking his head!
This store has an exceptionally good food section which undercuts the other grocery stores in town by far. Every summer when I arrive in Alpena, my first stop is at this Big Lots. If I can't find it here THEN I proceed to my other favorite grocery stores for meat and fresh produce. I don't know how Alpena ever got along without this store!
The camping and sporting goods department in this Big Lots is also exceptionally good. Most of the hand towels, blankets, sheets, etc we use at the cottage are high quality and have been purchased from this store or the local JC Penney's on July Sales.
I also rate a store by how knowledgeable and friendly the staff is. This Big Lots has exceptionally friendly, helpful employees who go out of their way to assist you and greet you with a smile when you arrive every year!
