Review content:
On one hand, when I volunteered and attended groups there as a young trans youth, between about 1997-2004, I got a lot out of it. They have wonderful resources for queer youth, including job training, a computer lab, a great library, a ton of activities, workshops, and great support groups. I got to do an "internship" where I got $100/month to be trained as a "peer health educator" and learn all about presenting workshops on whatever I wanted as long as I could make an argument that it was health-related. I met lots of awesome people there, and got great snacks, meals, and movies many times.
On the other hand, while they do a good job of having outreach to everyone from the homeless queer youth across the street to the rich gay kid from San Ramon, they often failed to integrate those groups. Groups ended up being segregated by race and class, with nobody apparently knowing whether or how to address this despite their many trainings around diversity. And not long after I "aged out," they stopped supporting the transgender youth group and then dropped the group entirely, with not a word of explanation to the trans youth who had been volunteering with it for years. And the staff members who (according to the voicemail and website) were the contact point for that group never returned phone calls or emails about it. They may have changed the situation by now, but that wouldn't make it okay.
