Review content:
A block away from Adorama, Calumet is a national chain that runs in line with the offerings and prices of the better known NYC photo stores, B&H and Adorama. The store itself is attractive, well stocked, and the staff is generally helpful and friendly. The big difference between Calumet and its competitors is that the store is quiet. If you need assistance making a purchase or just don't like dealing with crowds, you'll prefer Calumet to other stores in the city.
The prices tend to be slightly higher than the other stores in the city but very close. On some items, the price is actually better than its competitors (I found it was the best price for the Epson 2200) so be sure to shop around. The hours are also slightly shorter but they are open Friday afternoons and Saturday.
As the chain is national, be sure to call ahead if you want to purchase an item as the website may not match the store's inventory, especially for used items.
