Let me say at the beginning that I’m not recommending Bon Bon. While better than Cool Spot, it’s terrible (except for the shampoo people – they’re fab). What I am recommending is a particular stylist: Armando Toro.
He’s just wonderful. He really knows his craft and can do anything from straightening black hair to hand-pinned traditional 1940s finger waves, but his true expertise his curly hair. He understands curly hair better than anyone I know.
I have very high-maintenance tastes but a very low-maintenance beauty routine and he always picks cuts that I can do the most minimal of work on. He also knows that I change my mind a lot and always cuts my hair so that I can go with more than a month of growth without it looking shaggy.
I've recommended him to many friends, several of whom became loyal customers. The rating would have 5 stars if he was at a better salon and gave some consideration to costs. Still, I would never see anyone else.
