I accidently hit a dog on my way to work one morning. I picked him up and put him in my car with the intention of getting him medical help. It was around 7 am. I tried Baton Rouge Animal hospital first. When there was no answer at either the regular number or the after hours emergency number given in the recorded message, so I started trying other vet's offices. (By this time it was 7:30am) None of the vets were in that early and all of the vet offices referred me to the BR Animal Hospital. I tried the phone number several times again with the same results - NO ANSWER! Finally I got a technician at a nearby vet office to let me bring the poor dog to their office to see what the tech could do for him (since the vet didn't get in until 9am) By the time I got there, the dog had died. He may not have made it anyway, even with medical attention, but I will never know. This clinic's phone # was listed several times in the yellow pages for after-hours emergencies. (The only one)If a medical facility advertises 24 hours service for emergencies, someone needs to be available to answer the phones 24-7. If this happens to one of your pets, don't even waste your time with this clinic - go directly to the LSU vet school even if it is farther away.
