African/American Historical Museum is located at 436 East Douglas Street. It looks like a home from the front and it is. The home has been converted into a number of rooms and areas of displays and exhibits. The display starts out with the African experience and traces the history of Blacks (or African Americans) in America. The docents are dressed in the African culture of their homes. The Underground Railroad experience is featured. Local Fort Wayne history is also a highlight. Parking is free. The museum is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from noon to 4 p.m. every Saturday. Call ahead during the school year, since the museum gives many tours to students.
