Review content:
In a city with McDonald's that deliver and a pizzeria on every corner, the Union Square Farmers' Market is a breath of fresh air.
Open Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays year-round from 8am to 6pm, the market fills Union Square with stands full of whatever fruits, vegetables and flowers and potted plants are in season, as well stands selling fresh meats (buffalo, rabbit, fish, fresh bacon and more), organic eggs, organic jams and honeys, goat's milk cheese, other gourmet cheese and even bags of homemade pretzels.
A number of bakeries that set up are one of the market's strong points with their fresh whole grain breads, foccacia pizza and even whole wheat scones and cookies (and if they're whole wheat they don't really count as dessert, right?)
The only thing to beware of is the price - many items are more expensive than you'll find at your local vegetable stand, so keep in mind where your budget and your healthy intentions overlap.
