I'm kind of torn as to how to critique this theater.
There are definite positives and minuses.
I went to see Train a few nights ago and commented to my friend how it's been years since my last show here.
I enjoyed this performance (which isn't hard to do when you LOVE a particular band) - but the theater? Again, good and bad.
Good - The theater is very conveniently located. Get downtown, you'll find it.
Bad - Since it's right downtown, parking can be hard to find or pricey.
Good - I got lucky and found an ideal parking spot on the street. PERFECT and FREE!
Bad - Lots of construction downtown and all over the I system. Can be tricky getting downtown.
Good - The theater is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!! Just a gorgeous building. Interior is fabulous.
Bad - Seats are not staggered. If the person right in front of you is big, has a big head, or big hair - you are outta luck.
Bad X2 - My friend's seat was broken. Theater was packed. Couldn't move. Outta luck again.
Good - Very intimate setting.
Bad - People have the mentality of being in an arena. Having "crazies" next to you in an intimate setting - not so good.
Good - They serve liquor and you can bring your drinks to your seats.
Bad - They serve liquor and you can bring your drinks to your seats.
Good - If you want to kick back, sit and watch the show in the plush, cushy seats - you can.
Bad - As in any venue, people will get up to dance, so you are forced to stand - like it or not.
Overall, I'm giving this place a 4 star. Mostly for the intimacy you get with national acts. Just can't beat it in such a wonderful setting.
TIP - if there is a show coming up that you have to see - join the Riverside's email group. You'll get to buy tickets before they go on sale to the general public.
Also, their website is not very good about showing you WHERE your seats will be. You are better off calling in to buy your seats.
