"You guys are making it hard for me to let you in" said the bouncer dismissively before calling over the manager to work out whether or not 2 suspicious suspects like my girlfriend and I should be allowed into their 1/2 empty bar at 7:30pm on a Saturday night. You see my girlfriend is from Georgia and presented a Georgia drivers license which didn't scan properly for some reason, and I'm from Australia and ONLY had a passport to verify my identity. The people at the immigration desk at Houston airport didn't see a problem with using my passport to verify my identity on my way into the USA a couple of months ago so either the USA has slack border security or these guys need to stop taking themselves so seriously. I know which one I'd vote for. So after being removed from the line we got to spend 5 mins in purgatory while the manager found time to come over and decide whether we should be allowed into what must presumably be "heaven" inside. After scrutinizing my passport for a minute or so he demonstrated why he holds a senior position inside the "Ultralounge" by confirming that my passport is indeed a valid form of identification and I am now permitted to enter. He then walked off with my girlfriends license and attempted to scan it a few times before coming over to explain that she isn't allowed in "for the safety of other patrons". Are these guys kidding or what?
