Please note that I have not been back to this restaurant in about two years so a lot could have changed but I don't know. Charlie's Bar and Grill always seems to be a "hopping" place when I drive past it. Located on Plainfield, right in the middle of the busy area, this restaurant/bar/grill seems to cater to all different groups - families, individuals, eaters, drinkers, talkers, kids, adults, etc. The times I have been in it there has always been a crowd of people. The service hasn't been bad, but it hasn't been great. The food is less than mediocre, even worse to a friend of mine who didn't get good service or food while we were there the last time. We both ordered drinks and food. The drinks came and hers was totally wrong (the grasshopper didn't even have a mint taste to it.) When it came time for the food to come you could smell it before it even reached our table. Her dish had rancid Spanish rice on it. The waitress said she didn't smell anything wrong with it; told my friend that there was nothing wrong with it. Yet, when prompted by my friend to get another fork and try it herself she said no, even though she had already said that she liked Spanish rice. After we finally had to threaten to call the police (it was not a pleasant situation after my friend got sick after eating a few bites, more to confirm to herself than anything) the manager finally was beckoned over and he even declined to eat any. They offered us something else to eat but my friend was so ill by then that we said no. AND THEN THE WAITRESS BROUGHT THE BILL FOR ALL OF THE FOOD!!! We only paid them for what I had, since that was all correct. We left and my friend spent the next few days in bed due to food poisoning. I have not been back since then. I am hoping that things have changed since then.
