Review content:
I took my girlfriend last night to Bella Napoli to celebrate her birthday. Both of us live near by and have always wondered what this restaurant was like; she is full-blooded Italian and I am a professional chef. The first thing I noticed was the prices on the menu (higher) didn't match those on their website, a small but significant detail in this price conscious environment. We started with bruschetta which was good, fresh but not outstanding. We both enjoyed our salads (she house/me Contadina) which were generous and well plated; though I wonder if the balsamic vinaigrette was not commercial, instead of homemade. Also we both wanted Caesar salads and were told they were not available as the romaine did not arrive on their last food delivery. This is lame for an Italian restaurant. How hard would it have been to run to Food Lion and buy five heads of romaine. As a chef I hate running out of staple menu items! Personally I think the salad should be included with the entree price. Next, she had the Lobster Ravioli and I had the Frutti de mare Alfredo. The ravioli was very good and my alfredo was skillfully made although the seafood portion was very paltry and the tiny little bay scallops were unimpressive at best; the crab was not readily apparent. The seafood should be the star of this dish and was more like a supporting character. The house Merlot was excellent and we split a very fine tiramasou. We had no problems with our service and were left with a $110 bill, including tip. I may go back for lunch Pros: nice atmosphere, location Cons: no effort made to acknoledge girl friends birthday
