This American Legion Post, 155, is an annual sponsor of Boys State. Boys State is a patriotic program that teaches about local and state government. My son was selected in the community as one of five youths to attend one year. Not only was there a full scholarship to attend Boys State, but they gave them $20 pocket money each for the trip to Tallahassee that could be spent on a souvenir photograph or other memorabilia of the trip. These men were not only friendly to the boys, but hospitable and allowed them to get to know the veterans better. The post has pool and snacks which the veterans were kind enough to treat these candidates. 12 boys came and 5 went on the trip. It is a honor to be selected. Then there is the Eagle Scout of the Year award. This is a greater honor in which one boy scout with this high rank is selected each year and his application is sent to be in the state running for a scholarship. These men are American Legion members and any boy with a relative in the American Legion can apply. They help you with your application. Awesome group of men.
