If you are looking for a place to eat in Howard City, you'll find several. If you are looking for a place that's a little nicer than the local hometown diner, you'll only find Latitudes. It's right here in town,so you don't have to drive all the way to Grand Rapids for a nice meal.
It's located in an old brick building thats been renovated and painted inside and out. It still has that hometown charm but the ambiance is more like a nice restaurant. The decor is a little on the plain side, but it gives it a casual comfortable feel. The restaurant is in the front of the building and you can walk through the back to the Steelheads Bar. Steelheads also has it's own entrance on the side of the building.
If you go for lunch, you won't have to wait to be seated most days. For dinner, you usually have to wait and Fridays and Saturdays are the busiest, like anywhere else. The only problem with this is that the only place to wait is the sidewalk or the bar.
The food is excellent and they do offer daily lunch and dinner specials and they occassionally offer specials that are not normally on the menu. Prices for lunch are reasonable and run from about $7-$10 per person. They also have meals for the kids for both lunch and dinner. Dinner is quite expensive, but no more so than going to a place like Outback Steakhouse or Olive Garden.
In my experience, the service has always been as good as the food. It's busy in there, but the servers manage to do a great job just the same. The place is always clean and they are family friendly.
