In December of 2021, I hired an electrical contractor, Calvin Rucker from Bagdad, FL, who said he works for "the union" in Fort Walton Beach to do some electrical projects for me -- change a new dryer plug to fit the outlet and, at a later date, install security cameras, two WiFi doorbells, and two porch lights, and replace three porch lights with motion sensor lights. He brought a "crew" with him, who he introduced as his supervisor, "Kenny" from Holt, FL, and a coworker, "Justin" from Milton, FL, at "the union" (Justin was also Kenny's son-in-law, supposedly). After they left, I found all boxes, including warranty information and QR codes for registration, in the trash bin. Calvin installed the cameras, one motion sensor light, and one doorbell. Justin helped Calvin with the cameras, and he installed two motion sensor lights, a porch light, and a doorbell. I only saw Kenny install one light fixture; the rest of the time, he bloviated and oversaw the installation of the doorbells. The cameras and motion sensor light that Calvin installed worked fine, nothing Justin installed worked later. Neither doorbell would even light up, as the activation instructions said they should. When Calvin and Kenny returned weeks later to make repairs, Kenny came in with a chip on his shoulder refusing to take responsibility for the failures. He and Calvin rewired two of the motion sensor lights installed by Justin, but he refused to fix the porch light Justin installed, saying that it was probably a burned-out bulb (it wasn't). Calvin then found that the doorbells require existing hardwired doorbells in order to operate, so he said he'd send me an estimate of the cost to install those and also an outdoor outlet my husband wanted within a couple of weeks, and he and Kenny left the junction boxes they put on the side of the house open with wires sticking out. I never got the estimate. We now have to find another electrician to straighten this mess out.
