I was referred to NYU School of Dentistry after another dentist (also an NYU dental school graduate) told me he could absolutely do my root canal and then proceeded to inform me - after I had waited two hours past my appointment time and was already in the chair - that he could in fact NOT do it. His office said I could have the procedure done at NYU the next morning as an emergency walk-in. I called the school and described my problem, stating that I had a referral for a root canal needing a microscope. The person on the other line said I could have the procedure done the next morning if I arrived by 9:00 as an emergency patient. I asked if I should arrive earlier to be first in line and was told no, arriving at 9 will be fine. I arrived at 9, and there were 3 other people already in front of me who had obviously arrived earlier (my fault, but still this person gave misleading information... should have been my first warning sign). After waiting two hours they take me back to the chair and inform me that they cannot do anything for me as an emergency patient, and that I would have to schedule THREE more appointments for a consultation, the procedure, and the follow up. NONE of this was even brought up as a possibility when I spoke with them on the phone. The student dentist tried to spin this in a positive light but came off patronizing and condescending. I was given false information all the way around, and when I complained to the manager of the office I was told there wasn't anything else they could do. I asked if they knew of any other endodontists in the city I could go to to get the procedure done and the manager flat-out said, "No, I don't know those kinds of things," and offered a feigned "sorry." Really? NYU Dental doesn't know of ANY other endodontists in New York City? I left without having anything done and am sincerely THANKFUL to their awful office management for perhaps sparing me further oral butchery at the hands of NYU student dentists. STAY AWAY.
