Told death was within hours for our father who was on a morphine pump the attending nurse left us alone watching suffering in the last hours of life. When we called for help the nurse said she would be thete in a half hour and 35 minutes later when not there yet in another phone call to her she had not left stating it would be another half hour. Dad died 5 minutes before her arrival and left us with horrible memories. They have too few nurses in areas far away often leaving suffering families waiting an hour or more during evening hours and weekends. The attending nurse Julia gave no support to us as a family and no comfort to our dying father. A family should not be left to understand morphine pump codes and siphon fluids from mouth and nose and no nurse should tell a family death is within hours and then walk away.
