Review content:
The installer was responsive and knowledgeable. This review is about company policy and possible upsell when utilizing Home Depot. I ordered a Rheem water heater to replace my 13 year home one. First, the wrong size was delivered so nothing was going to happen today. A pressure test was done finding I had 100psi. Their quote sheet specified it was to be no greater than 80. They said I needed to spend an additional $478 dollars to reduce my whole home pressure to 80.
Once they left I called my city and they said there was no such requirement for this replacement as the pressure in the city varied from 30 psi to 125 psi.
I called the company to follow up to see if it was a Rheem requirement, and they said no it was code. I responded saying it was not. Well, they said it is what they recommend. I said after 30 years in the house there had never been pressure problems related to the water heater. I would not go forward with the install if they forced me to lower the pressure. They would not change so the order was cancelled and I filed a report with Home Depoe.
Not a requirement of my city or of Rheem. It is Fast Water Heater's own requirement. Why? In a commodity market, which water heaters have become, the only way to increase profits is to convince the consumer of a "requirement" that they label as "REQ BY CODE or MFR" which didn't exist.
