I took my Saab 95 wagon in because the front brakes had locked. It turns out the brake booster had failed. Around noon, I called to see if the car was ready. They said it was almost ready, so I went over. At 3 p.m., the wheels were still off. It was ready around 4 p.m. Part of the charge included new rear brake pads and rotors. I asked about that. The mechanic said the old ones were rusty and the pads were nearly gone. My home garage in Vermont always notes when pads or rotors are about to need replacement, and they hadn't noted that, so I was suspicious, but I also needed to drive home, four hours away, so I didn't insist they remove the charge. As soon as I drove off, I noticed a hissing noise that hadn't been there before. Two days later, both the front and rear brakes locked. My home Saab dealer discovered PepBoys had installed a non-Saab booster, and it had already failed. They did say the same thing might happen to a Saab booster. They also said the hissing noise wa
