April 1997, I awoke to my mother frantically calling me for help. My father was stumbling and couldn't walk. We rushed him to GH Urgent care where he was,diagnosed as having an inner ear infection.Despite family concerns that this was CLEARLY not an ear infection. After 4 days and having seen three Group Health Physicians he was again told he had an ear infection. 4 days later, a NON GHC Dr. At the ER Diagnosed him as having had a massive stroke on Saturday (the day he woke up unable to walk)...By the time he was properly diagnosed and in the stroke recovery unit at St. Joseph's Hosp, my father had lost ALL his faculties,and basically spent the next several months learning everything over again from basic infancy.
