Review content:
i am a mother who home-schools my 11 year old daughter because the schools are little camps for the sheep of the future. i took my daughter to gilman st tonight to see if she felt comfortable. in the name of making friends. we got there, for our first time, had to each pay $4 for a membership then $7 each to get in to see A SONG. that's right, i paid more than i would for a show in the city to listen to one song at a venue where teenagers are walking around smoking as though it is cool. my daughter looked around, listened for a song, then said that she wanted to go. she said it is not where she belongs (thankfully). we went back to the front to ask for half of our money back and THEY KNEW we had just gotten there. they said they have a "policy" not to refund. policies in a punk rock house?! that if i had asked to just listen to one song from the beginning they would not have made us pay but that, because i had already handed them the money they HAD TO keep it. what?! my daughter wanted to leave. it was smoky in there! she is 11. i did not go there assuming she would be exposed to cigarette smoke because it is ILLEGAL to smoke inside public places. they claim to be this alternative venue then hold on so tightly to their "rules" such that they exploit a single mother trying to introduce something new to her daughter. we sincerely listened to one song for $18! i was forced to support a lame venue that is a disaster waiting to happen for "bay area youth". they are not running on good intent. they have no qualm exploiting others for their own purposes. what are they teaching todays youth about right and wrong or are they just not concerned with the fruits of their actions? screw compassion right? like, that is just so not cool man. LAME. it hurts to walk into a place where i hope to find comradery in the minds of the other patrons only to find the same sort of exploitive oppressive BS disguised as punk rock. i hope it rains on 924 gilman st. Pros: none Cons: disguised as cool run on poor morals and standards
