I bid on a log home at Taggart Auctions in Columbus on November 1st, 2007. The home "appeared" to be in reasonably good shape, but after the nonrefundable earnest money of $7900 was paid, I found that beetle damage to foundation logs had previously occurred and that countless small holes from "old house bores" existed in virtually all of the logs. The damaged logs had been replaced with artificial logs and the entire exterior had been stained in an apparent attempt to cover the damage. I paid to get the pest control report, required for closing, and the bank rejected my loan based upon the report. Taggart Auctions would not return any of the earnest money since it sold the property "as is". Even though there is evidence to believe Taggart knew about the beetle/bore problem prior to the auction, there was no disclosure of this problem or other problems that existed with the house.
