My room mate and I had been storing with iStorage Desert Hot Springs for three months when one of our units was broken into. Oddly enough, it was not caught on any security cameras, and the unit was open for two days before we were notified. We had a loss in excess of $20,000 dollars. The unit was broken into on December 31st, but we were not notified until January 2nd, and a police report was not filed until that day. We filed the report ourselves. When we were notified on January 2nd, we were led to believe the break-in occurred that day. It was not until yesterday that we were told by management that the robbery actually occurred on the 31st. They said the reason why we were not notified was that the young man working on the day of the robbery didn't know who to call. According to management, the young man called management, but they were out of state and didn't respond. The owners were also called, but they didn't respond. We were told the young made a note in our file of who he attempted to contact, but he didn't contact us because he didn't know if that was the policy. Unfortunately the young man was terminated over the incident. He wasn't trained properly. We got no assistance from management in making the police report. And in filing for the insurance, we were told we had to get a copy of the report and bring it to them. We've been told we have to do all these things, but they are not assuming any responsibility. They state in their advertisement that they have closed circuit cameras, but that's not true. The cameras are only on the gate and on the main run from the gate. There's no other security in the place. We didn't know that until our unit was broken into. Unfortunately we still have our other unit there.
