The College of San Mateo is a beautiful campus with a small, private college feel. Its only drawback is the somewhat minimalist architecture that is often inappropriate for its current use, or fairly crowded and showing its hard use and age. However, substantively one could not ask for a better institution fulfilling its original key function: to provide all community youth with the opportunity for an excellent education at minimal cost, but especially for deserving poorer children who otherwise would not be able to afford the cost of college. CSM prepares the academically gifted students for entry into world-class academia via UC admission preferences for transfer students. CSM's professors and instructors are MOSTLY steeped in their chosen academics, but MANY are imminently approachable as top rate teachers and mentors with an obvious enthusiasm for the student's achievement and learning.
