Review content:
This therapist understands absolutely nothing about the rights or self-determination of her clients. She is controlling, rigid and apparently feels she is superior to those for whom she provides services. Her stated mode of practice is Gestalt; however, her actual mode of practice is all over the place. She claims have competence in the area of gay issues, but actually understands very little about individuals who self-identify as something other than completely gay or straight. This therapist even needs reminders with regard to when she can and cannot disclose confidential information without a release. She talked to me and looked at me like I was a piece of trash when I did not follow her recommendations. Twice, I almost committed suicide after sessions with her...all the time, I thought there was something wrong with me...I was a BAD PATIENT. As though people who seek counseling are in the best of mental health and need additonal demands to be perfect for the therapist....The Akron Family Institute itself overbilled me by almost $1000.00, most likely because this therapist failed to submit the required documentation to my insurance company. Anyone considering receiving services at this agency should also be aware that its director, Dr. Perkins, was previously disciplined by the Ohio Board of Counselors and Social Workers for boundary violations with clients. This is public information on the Board web site. Cons: you will be paying lots of money for someone to emotionally abuse you
