Taylor Gourmet II is my go-to for several occasions: when I don't want to cook, when I want something meaty, when I need lunch on a weekend and my fridge is empty, when I want gelato to-go, when I want something fried...
Taylor's makes Philly-style sandwiches and hoagies and makes them well. Their sandwiches are stuffed with all kinds of meats and veggies and some with cheese (usually provolone). They even have chicken hoagies (you can get breaded or not-breaded), vegetarian sandwiches, salads and small dishes like fried mozzarella and fried ravioli, both of which are seasoned deliciously and come with a nice, tangy tomato dipping sauce.
I'm a big fan of their Christian Street: arugula, portobello mushrooms, goat cheese...it's actually filling and very tasty despite being a veggie sandwich. A huge plus at Taylor is that they sell gelato to-go, in either large or small cartons (the chocolate-hazelnut is awesome).
The only caveat with this location is that they're not open late on weekends like their H St. sister location. They're only open from 11-9 daily, so if you're looking to get a hearty hoagie fix at midnight on Saturday, you'll just have to go elsewhere. But it might not be as good.
Pros: hearty, tasty sandwiches, good selection of chips, GELATO
Cons: wish it was open late
