After dining at Twin Dragon several times unsatisfied, and googling 'east coast style Chinese food' to see Fu's turn up at several sites like Yelp and Chowhound, I decided to give it a shot. (I've been trying for 3 years to find a place with 'eastern' fake, greasy Chinese here in LA; crab rangoons, pork fried rice that looks brown, chicken fingers, big egg rolls, crispy wings, scallion pancakes etc...Its just not gonna happen) Pros: *They have scorpion BOWLS, not the single serving ones like at Twin Dragon. It doesn't come in a volcano bowl, but they do light a lime on fire and float it in the middle. It was good and packed a nice sting, though a little pricey ($16). The cheese wantons (no crab) were pretty good, but it had chopped scallions in it, giving it a totally different taste than what I was hoping for. At least they weren't sweet like other places. Pro/Con: The PuPu Platter looked excitingly familiar on the menu, but upon arrival, it left much to be desired; The fried shrimps were ok, but in panko flakes, not the weird puffy fried batter I'd been searching for. The beef on a stick was rubberized, gelatinous mystery meat, and very thin & slimy. The spring rolls were hardly stuffed, but edible. I didn't try the spear ribs, but they looked very good-better than other places Ive seen. Cons: The pork fried rice is not like eastern PFR and Fu's was nasty. Twin Dragon's rice is somehow way better. The pork chunks were more like dried out flakes...It was just wrong. The lo mien was incredibly nasty-Twin Dragon's is better (which is hard to do, since TD is pretty gross). I'm a cook, and I know how lo mien and the sauce is made ( a mixture of oyster sauce, soy sauce, peanut oil and spices). This stuff was not made in lo mien sauce. It tasted as though the wheat noodles were simply tossed in plain soy sauce-Totally bizarre, and nasty. The beef was the same as the stick stuff, and comparable to Twin Dragons meats; weird, gelatinous, slimy and rubbery. Twin Dragon might be greasy as hell, but at least it edible if you're drunk. Fu's wasn't edible at all, even while inebriated. Conclusion: Go to Twin Dragon for dinner, or eat at home. Then go to Fu's for an edible pupu platter and good scorpion bowl. Just lower your expectations, and if you're from the NE, its time to give up. Pros: Scorpion Bowl, PuPu Platter & Rangoons only OK Cons: Lo Mein, Fried Rice are Gross
