My 9-year-old had been complaining of ""sore throat...hard to swallow"" for a couple of days, so I figured I should take him to see a doctor. We have recently moved, and our regular doctor is a bit of a drive, and we always have to wait a long time there, so I decided to go to Urgent Care in Lansing, by Frandor. We had actually been there a few weeks ago when my son had a sinus thing going on. So, I signed my son in, and the receptionist told me I had a $50.00 plus balance due from our previous visit. I was astonished, because we had paid $80.00 cash at that visit. The receptionist then explained to me, very nicely, that because we had insurance, we had to pay more. I asked what a person with no insurance would pay, and she said, ""eighty dollars."" I said, ""that is what we paid you, so don't bill our insurance."" She said they had to bill our insurance and that people without insurance have to sign a form stating they really do not have insurance. The total bill was over TWO HUNDRD DOLLARS, of, which, we were asked to pay more that $150.00 out of pocket. Yet, had I lied and said we had no insurance, they would have charged me $80.00. The nice receptionist got a less nice person to talk to me who said that my issue was not woth her--but with my insurance co. Hm....\r So, I paid the balance and left to drive to Haslett Redi Care. I told them what had happend and they said they could take just my $80.00 payment. I was so relieved. Then, I felt doubly blessed by the doctor who saw my son. Dr. Mahany is a true professional AND he is altuistic. He did a strep screen on my son and checked him out. He was very respectful and knowledgeable. My son did not have strep, but Dr. Mahany explained that their are other treatable throat infections (ones that antibiotics will cure). He wrote us a script and said only to fill it if my son became more ill. He did, that night, quickly, in the evening. My son's fever spiked to over 102 degrees, so I filled the script. The next day my son was spiking fevers of almost 103. By the third day of the antibiotic, my son was much better and today he is as good as new. That is all I really wanted--a healthy son :). Thank you to the staff at Haslett Redi Care and, especially, to Dr. Mahany and God bless you!\r \r Elizabeth Jesse (mother to Chase Jesse)
