This commentary is intended to inform prospective customers of Cornerstone Pools (Paul Lahare) about what to expect if your pool project encounters any significant issue once constructed. I readily admit that the planning and construction process was nearly flawless. Paul was accommodating and pleasant during our planning meetings and the construction was quick and painless. The experience was great until about six months after the pool was built. \r
We have a pool and spa built by Cornerstone Pools (Paul Lahare). Although our initial experience with Cornerstone (Paul) was very positive, about six months post-completion things started to go very wrong. It was at that time when we noticed cracking in tile grout at the water line. Visually, the pool still looked fine and given south Louisiana’s soil conditions, we were not surprised that some settling may cause these types of issues. Paul sent a repairman to re-grout the tile and we thought we were done. \r
Two or three months later, I noticed more separation and cracking in the tile grout lines, with some fairly significant separation of the grout joint between the coping and tile. Once again, Paul minimized the issue and committed to send the tile guy out to remedy the problem. The nature of this issue raised concerns that the pool might be sinking; a concern that I expressed to Paul, but that he dismissed. Keep in mind that this project has been completed less than one year.\r
In November of 2012, our pool will be three years old and is severely out of level. Per a third-party structural engineer, the pool is not sinking, but instead is heaving from the ground due to the high-clay soil expansion. Once notified of this out of level condition, Paul stopped answering our calls and no longer returned phone messages. He is asserting that he cannot be held responsible for soil conditions. Paul was fully aware of the soil conditions when he planned this construction and did not take the necessary steps to accommodate any particular needs of this project. \r
If you are contemplating using Cornerstone Pools, Plantation Pools or other Paul Lahare company, you may want to pull up the St. Tammany permit filings on the Internet and find your own ""references"" from his customer base. Don’t just use the “positive” customers he will provide. Also continue searching for reviews online.\r
Remember, warranties and/or guarantees are only as good as the company/people standing behind them.\r
