Review content:
We have several beautiful old French doors in our home, of which 4 glass panes had punctured and needed to be replaced. We brought the 4 glass panes to Encinitas Glass and asked them to make exact copies. Upon receiving the new glass panes and installing them, we noticed that the black border frames (spacer covered by butyl) showed beyond the wooden frames on all 4 panes, hence making them unsightly and completely unacceptable. The original panes had butyl covered spacer at only half the width of the new ones (5/16” versus ½” to be specific).\r
\r
We brought all the panes back to Encinitas Glass and were told that they had seen this before and would send them back to their vendor. A couple of weeks later a different person at Encinitas Glass informed us that they would redo only one of the panes (which had a second problem in that the butyl width grew from 5/16” to 9/6” from one edge of the pane to the other). The other 3 glass panes would not be redone as they were “made to industry tolerance”.\r
\r
I drove down to Encinitas Glass to communicate the fact that the panes were useless in my French doors. Again, they gave me the story of 3 panes being made to industry standard tolerances, but that they would redo the 4th. I am no expert on industry tolerances, but I very much doubt that it is acceptable to nearly double the size of the window spacer width. What I do know for sure is that Encinitas Glass took my hard earned money to redo my glass panes and gave me back something that cannot be used.\r
\r
I informed Encinitas Glass that I would write a review about them on the Internet. As I was leaving the store I heard somebody yelling at me” “That is Bullsh*t!” I turned around to find the owner of the store suddenly having appeared. A brief, unpleasant, and unproductive discussion ensued where the owner was yelling about threats to his company and rebuttals, and industry tolerances. \r
\r
Needless to say, my experience with Encinitas Glass was less than positive. I would not recommend them to anybody. \r
