It is shocking how in such a competitive restaurant market food (and service) can be so average. The $28 halibut accompanied by a mound of starch (called risotto) can be consumed in three bites (four if you remember your table manners). How is it possible that in one of the best cities for bread the offering here was inedible (another chemical experiment in starch gone bad). I was hoping desert would turn around my disappointment. True to form the poached pear was a mound of chopped pears with some melted Toll House chips. Dinner for four including wine and tip ran close to $400. The prices and food here can kill a romantic buzz in no time. Jump in a cab and go to Baltazhar instead. Romance and pleasure are sure to follow.
