I was looking forward to dining and Nightwood and it didn't disappoint. The neighborhood is pretty interesting and the restaurant is truly a gem. They get massive bonus points for design - they have created an environment you want to be in. I didn't have a reservation so I sat outside on their patio. While they didn't have any heaters and it was a chilly evening, I was totally comfortable. I didn't feel like I was in the middle of the city. The indoor dining room is very cozy with lush, low lighting, and a hip yet welcoming vibe. My friend and I split two appetizers - the cheese croquettes and the prosciutto with mushrooms and french bread. They were both amazing. For my entree I had the Stinging Nettle Polenta which came with morel mushrooms, sauteed greens and a poached egg. It was one of the most heavenly things I've ever eaten. Really, I've been dreaming about it since. It was creamy, buttery, and melted in my mouth. The morels and greens were cooked perfectly but they were very salty. I commented to the waiter and he did offer to make me a new entree. I declined but will ask for less salt next time. My friend ordered the Lake Superior Whitefish with greens and potatoes and didn't have the salt problems I had. I tried the fish and it was perfectly sauteed. I highly recommend this dish if they have it. We were too stuffed to enjoy dessert but did have a few glasses of wine. If you're looking for something different in Chicago then check this place out. You won't be sorry. Pros: Local and sustainable menu; varied and attractive choices Cons: Very salty veggies
