Me and my family decided to visit the YMCA facility of Saratoga Springs, NY on Friday of April 9th 2010. The facility look in good shape, nice lobby, and the staff greeted us in a friendly manner when we arrived. I've been to many YMCA's before, so I knew whats expected of the staff, as I was previously a member of the YMCA a few years back. We decided to get a Family Day Pass as we wanted to go swimming. When you are a guest to the YMCA They ask for all your information when you arrive and valid ID for date of birth and to verify information. Me and my family arrived to the pool area, we took a quick swim, while my family was swimming, I decided to go in the whirlpool. I clearly read all of the rules, and sat down in the whirlpool. After about 5mins a women life guard approached me in the whirlpool The life guard name is either Alex or Beth (she had brown/reddish curly hair) and says ""YOU HAVE TO BE !8 TO BE IN THE WHIRLPOOL, SO YOU HAVE TO GET OUT!"" Now I look young but I'm over the age of 18. The lady was very rude. I clearly tell her my age and date of birth, and I tell her she can verify my information with the front desk if she insist. This Lifeguard begins to antagonize the situation more by insisting I go to the locker room and get my ID, if I wanted to stay in the whirlpool. Now this is just getting plain ridiculous, Lets remember I am paying to go to this facility just for a day and I'm being harassed, not only that but she doesn't ask anyone else in the whirlpool for identification, she is singling me out because I look young. The way she came up to me and harassed me is Age discriminating. By not only just assuming I'm under 18 because I look young but the way she handled the whole situation. It was just degrading and humiliating. So After I showed her my ID I told what she did was wrong, and she decided to argue with me more about it. I'm not looking for a fight but when you humiliate me, and degrade a human being for no reason its just ridiculous. Yes the rules says your supposed to be 18, yes I'm above 18, her job is a life guard to save life's not harass guest. I reported her to the front desk manager who basically did nothing, she told me to point out the life guard in the windows but she didn't even know her name. I will be filing a complaint with the attorney generals office, and I should of been offered a refund, not worth my time, and never going there again. Stay away from this facility! Pros: DECENT FACILITY Cons: HORRIBLE POOL STAFF
