I really want to support local restaurants BUT can't help you on this one. Atmosphere seemed good. Almost time for the Georgia game and the place was empty (2 people at the outside bar, one table seated).
Menu is not broad but, we don't mind that. It's kind of refreshing not to have 6 pages of menu items. We order a variety of tacos - fish, chicken, pork, brisket and chipotle shrimp. First, they were cold. Did I mention empty restaurant. Then, they were pretty much tasteless. My blackened fish tacos had zero flavor. The other two in my party were dousing theirs with hot sauce. Chipotle shrimp was rubbery and cold. Chicken was dry and not seasoned. Guacamole was decent. Rice had some kind of seasoning it but it tasted like dry seasoning because it wasn't absorbed into the rice at all. Salsa had no heat. Chips were too thick with no seasoning. If this place wants to do tacos, they need to go visit Taqueria del Sol or the taco food truck. Or, don't do tacos. I love the outside area. Love the fact that there is a bar outside. Love all the TVs and the fact that you can watch a game beyond your couch.
Herein lies my first problem-unprofessional, untrained, ditsy hostess - who was dressed like hell BTW - seated us in the corner. Ok. Then a table of 12 with half of those being kids came in. Yep, seated them right beside us. In an empty restaurant. Huge pet peeve. Yes, I understand spreading across the wait staff but ridiculous. Waitress was nice enough. Service was good. Again, dressed like she was a customer, not a waitress. We waited a bit for our check since she was chatting it up with the hostesses in the front of the restaurant.
Tacos were $2 a piece. But, they sucked. There were small. The ingredients were not quality or unique. Just because a restaurant has cheap food doesn't mean it's worth it. I feel ripped off because the taco was more like a $1 experience. Give me a $2 taco experience for $2 and I would still be okay with it. But, restaurants that survive give you a $3 experience for $2.
I really want this restaurant to survive. I want to support local businesses. I HATE chain restaurants.
The name makes it seem Mexican. It's really not. Or, if what we had is their version of Mexican La Parilla is about a mile either way so..not, good. If they are going to stay Loco Willy's then they need to do a better job on Mexican food. Or, they need to change their name to something that makes more sense with the sportsbar concept. It's like a college bar but on Whitlock. Huh? Like Taco Mac but with worse food (if that's possible). Like Hooters without the orange shorts. Like Fat Tuesday (about 10 frozen machines with drinks across the back of the bar) but with TV screens playing sports. Like Sidelines or Old Towne with sub par food. Somebody needs to revisit the business plan. Definitely appears to be a mismatch of West Cobb demographic and this restaurant concept. My guess is a restaurant guy just wanted to open this concept and this was the cheapest place he found to be able to do that without any consideration as to his clientele given the location.
I just don't get it. And, i don't think many others in West Cobb will either. Need to tighten up the quality of the menu - and quick - or Loco Willy's will be closed quicker than it took to open the place. So, come on guys. Get it together. I always root for the local guy, the underdog, the non-chain establishment. I really want you to stay around.
