Wow!! I've had great, but this was Wow. First, the flavor of the gumbo broth could be sipped on it's own. Add andouille and chicken and you have a hearty soup. No need to go crazy on the roux or okra, the secret is in the spicy broth. The Wow comes in at the brisket salad. It was astonishing - the flavor and tenderness of the brisket is a wow all it's own. This was the most delicious meat I've had in the South thus far. Fresh butter lettuce and goat cheese with a wonderful vinaigrette helps, but the next original culinary experience is found in the generous toppings of sweet potato ""croutons"". Folks, these aren't chunky croutons, they are crispy, crunchy, curled slivers of heaven. This combo of flavors is an experience deserving of recognition. The blue crab and corn cakes were crab-generous and perfectly cooked, but minimal with the sauce. They were fine. My husband ordered the BBQ shrimp (sauce generous) with a honey biscuit. I scantly recall what the shrimp & BBQ tasted like because that amazing honey biscuit stole the show. Normally plain was transformed into a flakey, perfectly baked, distinctly honey (not too sweet, just right) savory treat. Skip the complimentary bread and just ask to pay for two honey biscuits. I promise it's worth it. We shared a Tres Leches cake - not traditional but still amazing. It's a moist cake served with a side of Chantilly cream on the plate and a generous side serving of liquid Mexican chocolate to pour over. Another original. Lastly, we received gracious and friendly service from our server, April (who I recommend requesting). We were passing through en route to New Orleans; what a stop!
