Review content:
I became a member of the YMCA about a year ago, back when they were in the old building next to the library. Compared to that old facility, this new one is a DREAM! Beautiful amenities, nice and open, big bright windows, two lovely pools, and the locker rooms are a HUGE improvement over the old ones with their leaky sagging ceilings. I actually feel okay using the hot tub instead of a bit icky. However there are a few problems which I think the designers should have thought of before construction. I tend to use the facility at its peak time because that is when it works best for me (and a lot of other people as well!). I have a few physical impediments meaning that I've been recommended to use the treadmills primarily. Well, many days I can hardly find one to use, and often have to wait. The cardio area with the bikes, ellipticals and treadmills is obviously the most popular area, so they should have put in more machines for people to use. Also, the parking situation is pretty bad. During this peak time there is never an open spot in the lot, meaning that you have to look elsewhere and walk further. That's not ideal for Michigan winters in workout attire. Plus, the Y's parking lot is very cramped and narrow, making turns and maneuvering difficult. Overall it's very nice - just a few design flaws that should have been taken into account!
