I'll never understand the praise that this wine shop receives. I've shopped at Wally's (or tried to) several times over the past few months and have been disappointed every time. There's no question that they offer decent service based on the fact that one of their floor employees is likely to trail you through the shop. But it's a pity that the floor staff seem to know so little about wine--at least wine that hasn't already been given a high point score by a wine lifestyle magazine. There is a remarkable lack of creativity in the wines available in the shop and, when you couple that with the fact that other local shops offer most of what Wally's has on hand for 15-20% less, Wally's comes off as a big fat zero of a store. Wally's may have been a decent place once upon a time, but now it's just a dull, overpriced mess with lazily made wine selections, uneducated staff and an unappealing sense of entitlement.
