Review content:
When I noticed the canned peaches in our pitcher of sangria, I was concerned. The hard-as-a-rock focaccia brought to the table didn't help matters, but we tried to keep an open mind. At least the red pepper dipping sauce was nice, if slightly oily. Three salad appetizers were unspectacular (but really salty), and the fourth was just plain bad - fried calamari that tasted like rubber bands coated in salt. Fine, sometimes calamari don't turn out well - for as simple and common a dish as it is, it can be hard to get right. But the main courses just put us over the edge. The gluey Orecchiette Portofino I ordered came swimming in a bath of oil. Another orecchiette dish with sausage had an unidentifiable funky flavor that we all tasted and tried to pin down... in the end I think it may have been an overabundance of pecorino, but regardless - pecorino shouldn't be this hard to identify, and this was just off. Salmon was underdone and a bit slimy, with a side of salted-to-death vegetables. The only bright spot in the meal was the braised short rib special - tender and very tasty. Probably because it required the least amount of handling by whoever was in the kitchen. Man, even the biscotti that came with the check tasted old - hard in the middle and moisture-softened on the outside. We ate here a couple of years ago and were disappointed but thought we'd give it another shot. Now I just have to wonder how a place like this stays afloat in a neighborhood full of people so knowledgeable about food and freshness. The coop is just a couple doors down! These ""organic' (really?) ingredients tasted like they'd been languishing in a corner deli. A shockingly disappointing meal.
Pros: Very friendly service; short rib special
Cons: Just plain bad food
