Review content:
I just called the Red Coat Tavern to ask if they have veggie burgers since I am a vegetarian and the Red Coat had been recommended to me. The woman who answered the phone told me that they do not have veggie burgers although I could order rice. She was rude and unwilling to even pass on my request to the management telling me that not having veggie burgers has worked for 30 years and they were tired of people asking for them.
I have been to many other restaurants including chains like Red Robin and they bend over backwards to accommodate their customers (Boca or Gardenburger available). In fact, it's supposed to be all about service. Even Johnny Rockets offers Boca burger substitutions. The restaurants at Macy's also will bend over backwards to prepare meals for vegetarians.
Not so at the Red Coat. They are not interested in my business or the business of my friends who may eat burgers but will choose a restaurant that is customer-focused with options for me as well as them.
Two-thumbs down for the Red Coat. I have never before found a restaurant so unwilling and arrogant about not serving vegetarians something half-way decent. I felt disliked by the woman on the phone - for being willing to consider dining at the Red Coat! She even hung up on me. They must have so much business in this economy!
Pros: reputation
Cons: anti-vegetarian
