Review content:
One of the most over-rated restaurants in Raleigh, and certainly the most expensive, Angus Barn is nothing more than a steak joint; the same kind you'd find practically anywhere in Chicago. However, the ambience (tables crammed in next to one another), the service (mediocre at best), and the menu (boring) leave one wondering why so many people crowd in every night. The reason? Raleigh doesn't really have a good steak house for competition, that's why. The Chop House has a much better menu, service, and ambience for about the same price. I'd drive the extra few miles and go there... really. Unless you like to eat butter with your butter, the Angus Barn is old fashioned cooking with plenty of fat on the side. The crowd is mostly over 50 and you sit at simple wooden tables with your back shoved right up against the table next to you. The chef is good, but the menu is nothing compared to half the steak houses in Chicago. Want a really great steak? Hop on a plane and go to Lawry's. Otherwise, drive over to the Chop House.
