I brought a client to Christina Trutia's private practice. Because I could not locate her address in the newest phone book, I searched for it online. I found several addresses so I attempted to phone ahead. It was 7:45 am and the appointment was for 8:00 am. There was no answer. I drove the client to one of the locations posted and could not find her office. There was no sign, direction, or listing of her private practice. After driving around the oval and searching within the buildings, we located a directory guide. Upon entering her office we were greeted by an angry and unprofessional secretary. A secretary who obviuosly had no social skills training or any education on mental illness. The secretary stated that because we were 20 minutes late for the appointment, it must be rescheduled. Rescheduled for 2 and 1/2 weeks away. Despite pleading and begging for assistance, we were turned away. Turned away from vital mental health services. The number one rule for mental health practitioners is to do no harm. Not only was harm given, but also belittled and ignored. How is a person with a mental illness expected to search and discover mental health services when there is no sign, listing, or information of services? How is Dr. Trutia's office expected to be found when an emotionally dabilitated person has difficulty getting up to shower? Finding a psychiatrist's office should not be an adventure or a scavanger hunt. Dr. Trutia did not act on her client's best interest, she in fact did unethical and detrimental harm.
