To make a long story short: After my two-year membership finally ran out, I was left poorer in the wallet and richer with friends I treasure. (A trip to Iceland with the group was the final decisive thing that turned me against SC. It was handled badly, but I met great people.) SC is perfect if you are looking for new friends or things to do where you don't have to get bogged down by planning. The staff were total flakes, the pricing leaves you feeling like you were taken, and the events are repetitive after a while. HOWEVER, people are generally open and nice and there are gems among the groups that gather. Everyone joins with the best intentions and the cool, fun people find each other. I feel lucky to have met the people I did. BOTTOM LINE: Join for the shortest term possible to try it out. Pros: new adventures in nyc, make great friends, most ppl in 30s Cons: membership terms, overpriced, flaky staff
