A few years ago I kept hearing about a new surplus store in Maggie Valley, and I am a sucker for surplus places so I went to check it out. It took me 3 tries to catch him open (no steady hours it seems) and the time I did the owner seemed to be half drunk and I am glad I didn't have my kids with me after hearing his language. They had a few nice items, plus a lot of knock-off stuff. nothing special for sure, and coming from Asheville I won't bother again, not when I can stop in at Clyde at the Old Grouch's and find a better store I know will be open when I try. I think this place just survives because they have a steady diet of tourists who don't know better.
