Review content:
First off, I would just like to say that I was a server for 7 years. Because of this, I usually go easy on servers and I always know what's their fault and what's not. I've never left below a 20% tip, in fact I usually leave around 30%, so the fact that I'm writing a review (my 1st review ever) on the terrible service means that it was absolutely awful.
My boyfriend and I were very excited to try Sushi Sasa. We love Sushi Den and heard this place was comparable so we made reservations for Saturday night. The decor immediately impressed me when we first walked in the door. It was minimal, modern, and very light. However, we were escorted to the basement where it's a bit darker and more intimate. Had I known there was gong to be 12 middle-aged women screaming for a bachelorette party down there, I would've asked to be seated upstairs.
We had ate a very light lunch that day because we knew we were going to get our fill of sushi. That was a mistake! Had I known it would take our server 20 minutes to even acknowledge us, I would've definitely had a snack before I came. I understand that servers can be busy, but he never even stopped by or acknowledged us to say he would be right with us. He just showed up at our table 20 minutes later, with a very rushed ""Hi how are you? Thanks for waiting. Can I get you something to drink?"" At that point, we had already looked over the entire menu and decided what we wanted so we went ahead and told him we wanted to order. He took the order and rushed off. I didn't even get his name because he never told us his name.
Our appetizer took awhile to come out, but it was worth the wait. I can't remember the exact name but it was some sort of Dynamite dish with tempura-style shrimp and asparagus in a a wonderful creamy sauce. Yum! The server never stopped by to check on us when we were eating the appetizer. But at this point, I expected he wouldn't.
We ordered an assortment of rolls and sushi for our main course. We ordered the Fire Fry roll, the Diablo roll, and the Caterpillar roll. They were all amazing!! Especially the Caterpillar roll. My boyfriend and I love eel and I will say that this particular roll was one of the best eel rolls I have ever had. We also got pieces of sushi: Maguro (tuna), Unagi (freshwater eel), and Kani (crab). All very good as well. However, the tuna was very spicy. Definitely had a lot of wasabi, which was not specified on the sushi list so we were a little taken aback. Not a big deal for my boyfriend since he loves spicy food, but kind of a dealbreaker for me as I don't particularly enjoy super spicy food. As you can tell, we ordered quite a bit of food, so you can imagine that it took us quite a long time to eat. Our server never stopped by ONCE. However, the second we had taken our last bite sure enough, there he was at our table with the check. How convenient! That was the absolute only time he had paid any attention to us. And he didn't even run our card, the busboy did.
I cannot even begin to tell you how disappointed I was. Had we been shown respect and given good service, I would have easily given this place 4-5 stars. It was so bad that not only will I never go back, but I will make it known to all of my friends and family not to waste their time or money here. I know lots of other good places that would be appreciate our business and we will go elsewhere from now on!
Pros: Excellent rolls and sushi
Cons: Worst service I've had in years
